Abstract
Increasing incidence of diabetes in youth requires the school nurse to be competent in providing evidence-based nursing care for the management of diabetes in the school setting. The purpose of this project was to evaluate and increase the knowledge and confidence level of school nurses in the care of students with type 1 diabetes. The lack of literature or competencies focused on diabetes management in the school setting led to the development of a curriculum and survey to measure the effectiveness of the curriculum. 15 school nurses participated in the educational offering. Paired sample t-tests demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in diabetes knowledge and confidence in diabetes care. (p<0.01).
